Beyond Medicare
Care at home, when you need it most.
Short-term home health care pays cash benefits directly to you for covered care at home — so you can recover where you are most comfortable, instead of in a facility.
Please note: this is not a Medicare plan. It is a separate, limited-benefit insurance product from Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company (Policy Form Series G1670). It is not long-term care insurance, and it is not a Medicare Supplement. It does not replace Medicare, and Medicare does not set its terms.
What it is
Most people would rather recover at home than in a facility. Short-term home health care is designed for exactly that. If a licensed health care practitioner certifies that you have a cognitive impairment, or that you cannot perform at least two of six everyday activities — bathing, continence, dressing, eating, toileting, or transferring — the policy pays cash benefits directly to you for covered home health care services. There is no prior hospital stay required.
You can use the money however you need it: to pay a home health aide, to cover the costs of care at home, or for the everyday expenses that keep coming while you recover.
The three plans
| Plan | Home health care, per day | Home health aide, per day | Prescription benefit, per year | Longest benefit period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Up to $150 | Up to $40 (max 60 days) | Up to $300 | 360 days |
| B | Up to $300 | Up to $80 (max 60 days) | Up to $600 | 360 days |
| C | Up to $450 | Up to $120 (max 60 days) | Up to $900 | 360 days |
On Plan C, the total home health benefit can reach $162,000 ($450 a day for 360 days). If you recover and later need care again, benefits can restore after 180 consecutive days without covered home health services, once a practitioner certifies your recovery.
Help for the person who cares for you
Every plan includes a $3,500 TCARE Family Caregiver Benefit — a lump sum paid to a family caregiver. Care usually falls on a spouse, a daughter, or a son, and this benefit recognizes that. It is part of the policy, not an add-on you have to remember to buy.
The prescription drug benefit
Built into every plan is a prescription drug benefit: $10 for each generic prescription and $25 for each brand-name prescription, up to the annual maximum for your plan ($300 on Plan A, $600 on Plan B, $900 on Plan C). It pays per fill, not once.
To claim it, you send GTL the prescription claim form with proof from your pharmacy (a pharmacy printout showing the drug, the prescription number, and the date filled works). Once approved, GTL pays you directly.
One thing to know: the prescription benefit is part of the policy, and the exact rules for when each benefit pays are in the policy's Outline of Coverage. We will go through that document with you before you apply, so you know exactly how it works. This benefit is a payment under the policy — not a rebate, and not free money.
What it costs
Premiums depend on your age when you apply and the plan you choose, and they rise as you get older. There are no exact prices on this page yet — your Georgia rate is confirmed when we run your quote, which takes a few minutes. Call us and we will run it for you and go over the numbers before you decide anything.
How to get a quote
There is no online self-enrollment for this product. Here is how it works instead:
- Call or message us. Tell us your age and which plan interests you — or just tell us what worries you, and we will help you choose.
- We run your exact Georgia quote in GTL's system and go over the numbers, the benefits, and the Outline of Coverage with you, in plain English.
- We complete the application with you — it is an electronic application, signed electronically. No paper forms to mail.
Health questions apply, and some conditions may have a waiting period. We will tell you upfront if anything in your situation affects the policy.
Common questions
Is this long-term care insurance?
No. This is short-term care — benefits last up to 360 days. Long-term care insurance is a different product, designed for care that can last years. If you need help that lasts longer than a year, this policy is not the right tool, and we will tell you that.
Does Medicare already cover home health care?
Medicare covers limited skilled home health care in specific situations — usually after a hospital stay, for a limited time, and only for skilled care. This policy is different: it pays cash benefits directly to you for covered home health care, and you decide how to use the money. It sits alongside Medicare; it does not replace it.
Do I have to go to the hospital first?
No. There is no prior hospital stay required. What matters is the practitioner's certification — a cognitive impairment, or being unable to perform at least two of the six everyday activities listed above.
How does the prescription benefit actually pay me?
You fill your prescriptions as usual, then send GTL the prescription claim form with a pharmacy printout for each fill. GTL pays $10 per generic fill and $25 per brand-name fill, up to your plan's yearly maximum. The payment goes directly to you.
Can I buy this at any time of year?
Generally, yes — this product is not tied to Medicare's enrollment periods. But health questions apply, and some policies have waiting periods before benefits begin. Ask us about the timing for your situation.
